Vikings: Valhalla

After a cliff-hanging ending to the first season, Vikings: Valhalla released its second season on January 12, and it’s not one you’ll want to miss. Working as a sequel following the conclusion of the History channel epic saga, Vikings, starring Travis Fimmel, Vikings: Valhalla follows the story of Viking legend Leif Erickson and his family ties as they fight for freedom not only from the English, but from other Viking kingdoms as well.

Bridgerton

If you’ve kept up with the first two seasons of the critically acclaimed Netflix original, you know that there is drama, drama, and more DRAMA ready to spill in season 3 of Bridgerton! Follow the story of the envied Bridgerton family as they navigate regency-era courting seasons, love triangles, and the ever-elusive gossip columnist, Lady Whistledown. Though the official release date hasn’t been announced, we all know how Netflix loves to tease a sudden drop of its most popular shows, so keep an eye out!

Maestro

This one’s for the Bradley Cooper lovers (aka, everyone, right?). Working from one of our vacation rentals in Newport Beach can still feel a vacation in itself! The change of scenery alone can turn your regular working habits into a calming oasis. If you’re used to getting in those quiet hours – or are looking to start – here are our tips to maximize your quiet hours during your stay, and every day.

 

Plan breaks in between calls

Rather than scheduling 4 hours worth of meetings back to back, give yourself time in between each call to reflect on what was discussed, and set up a plan for any work that comes to follow. You may think you won’t have any trouble remembering all that was discussed in your morning meeting, but by 2:00 and 5 calls later, you’d be surprised at how much information gets pushed to the back burner of your brain without realizing it.

 

Leave the noise behind

This may sound over-the-top, but countless studies have shown that our minds are far more productive without distracting sounds, even if it’s just background noise. Spend at least a few hours working each day with the TV off (your favorite show will still be there later) turn off the music, and set your phone to do not disturb – you’d be surprised at how these seemingly nothing distractions can eat away at your daily productivity.

 

Designate quiet hours

Whether you prefer to begin, end, or spend time in the middle of your day taking advantage of your quiet hours, having a set schedule for this time is a great way to implement this process into your routine, and increase your productivity even further. This way, you know when you have time to reach out to others, get in touch, ask questions, etc. to be prepared for your quiet hours, that way they are truly uninterrupted. 

 

Know what tasks work during quiet hours

Following up on our last tip, it’s important to know that during this time, you’re working on tasks that can actually be completed solo and uninterrupted. If you schedule yourself an hour, but have a task or project that requires feedback or team work, your quiet hour(s) will not be as effective as they could be if you were working on something that would allow full solitary, uninterrupted work during that time frame.

Peaky Blinders star Anya Taylor Joy plays one of the main characters, as she and her partner take the cruise for themselves. If you’re looking for a thriller where the biggest question of the movie is escape, this is the movie for you. Coming November 18, 2022.

 

Violent Night

This one’s for the Stranger Things fans! Coming December 2, David Harbour (aka Jim Hopper from Netflix’s Stranger Things) stars as Santa Claus – but not your ordinary vision of Santa Claus. No, in this mystery thriller, Santa must save a family who has been kidnapped by mercenaries on Christmas Eve. The movie has already been compared to a modern day Die Hard, with Harbour’s version of Santa Claus as the new John McClane. So, whether you’re there for Harbour, McClane, or Santa Claus, you’re in for a treat!

 

Avatar: The Way of Water

Coming December 16, the long-awaited sequel to Avatar (10 years long!) is finally hitting the big screen. Jake and Ney-tiri have started a family and are living peacefully on Pandora, until a historic threat returns to the planet. Project Nightmare

Monday, October 31, 2022. 9:30 PM – 2 AM.

If you’re looking for the biggest 18+ Halloween bash that Newport has to offer, look no further than Project Nightmare, hosted at the Legacy OC Nightclub. Dubbed “the scariest college event in the OC,” this isn’t a party you’ll want to miss. Tickets will be $10 with an RSVP ticket before 10 PM, an additional cover charge will be added for anyone who shows up after 10:00. Don’t forget your ID, or your costume!

Pumpkin Run 2022

Sunday, October 20, 2022. 7:30 AM.

For those on the lookout for an active Halloween event for the whole family, the 9th annual Alhambra Pumpkin Run is a great place to get your heart rate up! Registration can be done online, and the perks are even better than the runner’s high. All registered runners will receive a 2022 Pumpkin Run t-shirt, medal, runner’s bib with timing chip, swag bag, and a FREE beer! Runners under 21 will receive a free non-alcoholic beverage upon finishing as well, in addition to the rest of the perks. 

EDJ Costume Party

Long Beach’s Halloween Pub Crawl

Saturday, October 22, 2022. 4:00 – 9 PM.

For this epic Long Beach event, be sure and order your tickets ahead to secure your wristband – this will get you into each of the pub crawl locations, as well as the food and drink special pricing. Costumes are a MUST, and there will most definitely be a costume contest, so go all out! Check in is from 4:00-5:30 PM, and is when you will receive your wristband and begin the fun. How to Save Money Dining Out at Your Newport Beachfront Rental

Saving money doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice the things you love, including going out to eat! We’ve curated a list of a few ways to meet in the middle when it comes to saving money while eating out. 

 

Order the large portion

This may seem like ways to spend more money, but hang in there! If the difference between a lunch or half portion of a meal is only a few bucks cheaper than the larger size, opt for the bigger meal, and save half of it! That way, you have a whole other meal for the next day’s lunch or dinner that’s basically free – and you only have to tip for it once!

 

Stick with water

Even though sometimes a soda or tea sounds great with your meal, it can cost you $3-$4 more per person – and that’s only if they offer free refills! Opt for water at the restaurant, and enjoy your soda, tea, or alcoholic beverage at home for a fraction of the cost. After all, everything tastes better when it costs less!

 

Ditch the appetizers – or make them a meal

Odds are, your meal is going to fill you up plenty when you go out to eat. Save yourself some money and some room for your entree at the same time, and skip the appetizers that can cost just as much as a second entree. Or, if an appetizer just looks too good to pass up, consider ordering it as your meal! Most restaurants have an option to turn any appetizer into a meal, and it will still cost less than a traditional entree with sides. Work smarter, not harder!
